Riverside Casino and Resort, located just south of Iowa City, is definitely a destination for anyone looking to get away and relax.
Offering a casino, hotel, spa, and golf course all in an out of the way setting, Riverside is very much worth the trip.
I recently visited Riverside, where I spent most of my time in the casino partaking in the gaming action and looking around a bit.
They have a huge parking lot so finding adequate parking was no problem. They also offer valet.
The casino is very beautiful with many water features throughout highlighted by a fountain in the center of the room above the bar.
The layout of the room is round with slot machines in the outer part of the circle and table games on the inner part.
With over 1,100 slot machines and most table games available, the casino is not cramped at all and still leaves a very open feel to walk around and play. I was very impressed with the layout.
The casino was clean, well lit, and roomy. The bathrooms were very clean and modern.
The cocktail staff was always around to tend to those needing a drink and they have two self-serve beverage centers on each side of the casino.
They have a nice mixture of older and newer slot machines of all types. I had no problem finding machines to play.
They also have a huge poker room that I fully intend to go back and visit.
They have half of the room designated for no smoking with a more than adequate ventilation system.
They have what looked like a nice buffet right off the casino floor. I grabbed a club sandwich at the Ripple Diner instead. It was very good and more than I could eat. They also offer a nice steakhouse.
Overall it was a great experience at Riverside. Much of your experience depends on how you can do at the casino. I was there for eight hours and lost $40. That tells you that the machines aren’t overly tight. Keep in mind that every visit is different. I was there when they first opened and did nothing but lose. I think they have loosened up a bit since then.
As always, I recommend getting a player’s card when you walk in. It is just left of the main entrance. They gave me $20 in free play to start and the points add up quickly.
I would rank Riverside as one of the finest Iowa casinos I have visited.
